Custom Jewelry Orders

We provide custom made jewelry in two ways.
1) You may request specific jewelry ( i.e. pendant shapes, necklace types, etc.) crafted  from our existing supply of stones. An example might be:  “a 22 inch pendant necklace with a long rectangular Montana Agate with lots of speckles.” We will send pictures of some speckled slabs that have been marked with your requested shape. After you make your selection, we will finish the pendant and choose beads to match the necklace. Choices in the way the necklace is finished (such as sterling or non-sterling) can be made at this point.

2) You may request specific jewelry made from a special stone of yours. Before sending us your stone, e-mail us a picture and describe the size. Although we have 5 rock saws, some stones are too large for us to cut. After determining that your stone is workable, the process for finishing is like the above (1) description.

In both cases we strive to keep the price similar to like items in our inventory and website. The following pictures will give you an idea of the process.

The requested shape has been traced onto the slab and is cut out on the trim saw.

Six Wheel Grinder
Six Wheel Grinder

The shape is ground more evenly on a six wheel grinder. After the edges have been smoothed, the top is domed  with all six wheels. The first three wheels are diamond grinding wheels, the final three are diamond impregnated resin sanding wheels. Each wheel has a successively finer grit. When the stone has been worked through the final wheel, it will have a fairly high polish. At this point, we polish the stone to give it a more glossy finish. The goal, especially on Montana Agate, is to achieve a “watery “ look.
