Montana Agate is found in the gravel beds of the Yellowstone River. It is a type of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) with colorful inclusions and bands of iron oxide and manganese oxide. Dendrites often occur in the agate, creating plant-like patterns or scenes. It is often called “picture agate.” Montana Agate is one of the two state gemstones of Montana. This type of agate is found only in the Yellowstone River drainage.
Montana Agate is thought to promote growth and wisdom through contemplation, and to contribute to balanced emotions, acceptance, and forgiveness.
